Essex County Council announced on 7 October that its plan to improve support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities has been approved by the Department for Education.

The three-year plan brings together families, schools, health services and other partners. It aims to make support easier to access and better suited to each child’s needs. Feedback from families and young people helped shape the proposals.

Approval gives Essex access to around £22 million in government funding. This is a plan for future improvements, rather than an immediate change to every family’s support. The council’s announcement links to the full plan.
